John,

I recently removed all of my windows on my '82 westy. The rears were the easiest for some reason. Note, they did not have the plastic vents in them that later vans have.

Anyhow, I used a couple of 1" wide drywall knives/spackle knives/ putty knifes, you know what I mean? From the inside I eased the rubber seal up and worked the 2 knives in there just like using tire levers on a bike tire.

front lower corner, working up and back. Pushing on the rubber firmly and constant slow pressure, the inside lip works out and finally the seal works out from front to back.

Not a very good description, sorry. The hardest part is being careful not to scratch interior paint when inserting putty knife.

I can't give you any advice on the rust treatment.

On my '88 GL I have a rust bubble that has appeared under the rubber seal on the right rear side window. It's a must that it be repaired ASAP. I don't want this thing to grow. It's big enough.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to remove that side window. I've never done this before and surely don't want to break the glass. A new seal will be used when it goes back together.

Also - tips & tricks to repair metal around that window would be appreciated, too. The rust bubble is on the bottom side of the glass.

Thanks,

John
