I agree.
For the record, I've never attached those stigmas to myself. Leave no
trace? Absolutely. IMO, if done right, no harm, no foul. I have done
some reading on the subject and have learned a few of the "rules"
regarding stealthing.
:)
In terms of drawing attention, and this is a BIG generalization based
upon a gut feeling, having non US plates might draw more attention,
say, if stealthing in the US. I know from walking around here in the
lower mainland that a plate of a different colour will catch my eye.
Moreover, a plate from, say, NY state, will really catch my eye. In a
good way. Like I'm impressed they drove all the way out here!
Re: painted bumpers. I was thinking more along the lines of if I had
no choice but to duck into a short road off the highway somewhere or
in a treed secluded area in the middle of nowhere. Somewhere I don't
want to be seen. Chrome would reflect light quite well. Wouldn't be
hard for someone(s) to block me in. This is a far fetched example as I
would rather pull over, make strong coffee, and keep driving than pull
off on a dead end short road or equivalent. Also far fetched as
getting blocked in would likely never happen. Still I travel by
myself, no dogs, or other deterrents.
And for the record, I would be cautious of where I parked regardless
of where I stealthed. Be it Canada, US, wherever.
