Subject: Storage Ideas..Was: Tool roll

This afternoon I was inside my rear hatch, attaching some extra tail
lights. I had the panel right off and got to looking at all that unused
space in the hatch. I plan on putting a couple of storage spots inside the
hatch when I get around to it. My plan is to make them similar to what you
see on boat...with sliding plexiglass or lexan doors to keep the stuff
inside when you open the hatch. I just hate seeing that much space wasted.
Might hold my paperback books or my bunk pillows... Also, I bet some sound
insulation would help in there, that is a big hollow space.
I found some red 'clearance lights' like on a big rig. They each have two
bulbs. I wired them into my tail lights (one on each side) and my brake
lights, since the stock lights are so low down and not all that bright even
with bulb upgrades. I screwed them right on in the slight channel that runs
around my whole van and has a couple of accent tape stripes in it.
Directly above the regular tail lights, facing aft, of course. That puts
them at eye level for drivers behind you...kinda like the new modern
vehicles with the "third brake light". They look pretty unobtrusive and are
as bright as the stock tail lights, giving me double the rear light and a
brake light during daytime that is right in front of the guy behind's
nose...I tried lots of combos of wires to see if I could make them a second
turn signal, too...but I got tired of that and went for a bike ride
instead...
Hopefully, they won't break bulb filiments when I slam the hatch, like I
sometimes do..If that happens, it's LED lights next. My van is begining to
take on a Mexican Taxi sort of look as I keep adding widgets....Next a few
jeweled mudflaps and a Hula Girl for the aerial...or maybe no...
