You're right Craig,

They times when i have had probs with small propane bottles was when using torch in cold weather. The steep pressure drop in that situation made the torch valve freeze up.

That being said, when young and stupid, (as opposed to old and stupid now), I was in N. BC and Alberta in my '69 beetle suffering from frozen engine problems every morning (until I got a block heater). One morning in Grande Prairie, clear and cold (-25C), I watched some guys thaw out the engine in a dump truck using a tiger torch. Those things really use the propane fast, I never thought about the propane freezing in t reg then.

I've run my stove in very cold conditions. I've never even though of the propane lines freezing up. I don't think the gas is flowing through them rapidly enough if you're just using the stove, fridge, or propex to cause it to chill down on its own due to expansion. I think if you had a leak, then yes. But I believe the propane has to REALLY flow fast to do that much of a cooling effect. So, you'd only really be subjected to ambiant temperature of the air.

A propane torch would probably classify as that "moving alot of propane REALLY fast" situation that would cause it's own cooling.
