You don't always have to do something in order to get the joke: imagine the whole exposition that George Clooney does in "Up in the Air," but instead of flying he's talking about driving a Vanagon Westfalia from town to town. The whole first scene with Vera Farmiga is at the table in his Westy (parked next to hers).
