Hi David.

That pic was just to give a general idea, as it wasn't complete, but IIRC, I put a ~4" block under each end. I also shortened the whole thing.

Type of winch I used: http://tinyurl.com/26pccv5 I can go outside and measure the cable thickness if need be. There are less expensive ones obviously. I had no concerns about either the chain or wood breaking. With my Jetta ABA engine, the worm gear provided a KA way to fine tune drivetrain height. Higher blocking was obviously required.

I used a chain, hooked to stock, uh, connection points on engine using this a connector similar to this:

I would warn those attempting this to make sure the chain won't interfere with any engine parts. As I mentioned, the chain, once weight was on it, damaged the plastic conduit on my *air cooled* engine.
