If there's any question about this it's easy enough to use a spreader
bar the length of the distance between hookup points, so you get a
vertical pull on both points.  The one I've made for a different
purpose (hauling dock floats up on the bank) is a truncated tee, with
braces welded from the foot of the tee to the ends of the arms, so
the tubing doesn't have to carry the entire load.  The foot of the
tee is where the winch cable hooks on, of course.
