Ah. Well. It's a transmission party then. ;) Makes sense to remove as unit.

I should clarify that with my different engine, the winch makes sense as the engine is much taller and the pan likely wouldn't rest on the jack as steadily as the flat 4.

IIRC, one might be better off with a higher lift floor jack. Like I *think* mine is 21 or 22" lift but I'd have to go outside and check. ;)

If it were me, I'd crack the engine/transmission fasteners loose, then take out the drivetrain. I could just picture myself trying to steady a rolly polly drivetrain on the garage floor while trying to crack the aforementioned loose. But that's just a guess.
