I do this too, particularly when adding a headlight relay kit. The relay kits are a great idea to reduce the load on the ignition switch and headlight switch. Making the front grounds independent and shorter makes the lights brighter, as does the relay kit. Just screw the new grounds down in places where someone in the future will be sure to see them if working on a headlight problem.
