I'd also recommend some random long bits of wire.  We ended up stranded
about an hour from home last weekend and managed with a long wire to feed
power from the battery to a terminal in the engine compartment (bypassing a
suddenly-bad ignition switch) and were able to drive the rest of the way
home.
