Hi Silvia, My wife has a 1988 wolfsburg vanagon and we had no problem getting a catalytic converter for it this past summer. The part is definitely still in production. IIRC I spent about $200, and it passed smog just fine once it was installed. Apparently BusDepot.com has a CARB-legal cat, but it isn't cheap: http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=VW83407
