Leaking gaskets and blown old O rings have been dogging our buses the last
few years. A mechanic who has helped with the '79 said when he used to work
on Harleys, they would throw a mover's blanket over the bike and put a 100
watt bulb in their next to the motor for the winter. The bulb generated
just enough heat to keep things at maybe 40 degrees and prevent cold damage.
Got me thinking and I went out and got a 4'X8' - 1" thick insulation board.
I also picked up 4 light sockets and 4 cords to wire the lights. Going to
cut that to shape, pop the lights in and fit it under both buses motor and
transaxles with 2 bulbs each. Figure the heat will pool up under the "box"
and into the engine bay. This is inside a barn, so breeze to move the heat
around. Probably wouldn't work outside, but good for a garage or maybe
under a heavy tarp.
It's worth a try, I guess. My barn has no heat and -14F was a little rough
on the buses last couple of years.
