Financing is a second issue assuming you can get the vehicle in and want to finance. Banks only finance against valid VIN - I discovered this when trying to buy a used Mercedes 280SL a few years ago. No problem getting money, just not for that grey market car! Tom www.towercooler.com

The VIN will trip you up. You have to go through a registered importer like this one: http://www.autostadtwest.com/ And that's only if the vehicle is on the official list of vehicles that the registered importer can legally modify to US codes. Of course, stuff does happen. A year ago, while spending a couple of days in Captiva, I didmeet some people from Illinois that had gotten that specific vehicle across the Canadian border and somehow registered in that state. I suspect they were lucky. Still..... a tough row to hoe. Is there any info available for buying a T5 in Mexico and driving it across the border? I mean, lots of humans walk across and seem to stay in the US so why not a few "naughty" 2.5 TDI T5's? Just a thought. Smile. Peter Marsh
