Regulator icing up is usually a sign that liquid propane is getting in to it. The expansion is causing the refrigeration effect like an expansion valve on an AC system. Tank overfill or severe off level. If the regulator cannot handle the flow that can also be an issue. The regulator should be a two stage type to further prevent liquid from getting to the appliance.

So its 22 degrees out here in Oregon and my propex heater is having issues with staying lit. i noticed the propain regulator is getting iced up and i think it is causing problems with the flow. is this common? the heater is running but i noticed it cutting out and then relighting its self. do you think the regulator is going bad or just icing up? there is about an 1/8th inch of white ice on the regulator. i will be sleeping in the van tonight and hope to god it is going to stay running while im sleeping. I did notice when I first tryed to run it tonight it did not light and I got the red light flashing 2 times. then I tryed to light my burner and got no propain smell or gas to the burner. I went out and tapped on the regulator with a rubber hammer. and the gas to the burner started flowing. then i re started the heater and it lit. so i know the regulator was an issue in the begining..... Let me know what you think. Thanks
