In addition to what John said, some of the blow-by gases are, of course, water which condenses in the cold crankcase. One of its mischievous activities is to induce acids to form there. Much better to get everything thoroughly heated up and all the water driven out before parking it. If circumstances make that impossible, giving it a regular -- weekly, say -- twelve-mile or so run will help.

That's pathetically fallacious. Everyone knows bicycles like to be anthropomorphized and picked up when they're two-tired.
