Subject: Re: Motor mount broken bolt 84GL manual 4 speed follow-up

Got the bolt out of the block. This was the driver side motor mount bolt that was broken. Thought someone might be interested. I mentioned that the Dremel might be used. That is what I used. The problem with using anything in this area is getting the blade to the bolt. The bolt was recessed maybe a little less than 1/8 inch. In order to get to it, I used a right angle adapter for the Dremel. Using a new cutoff wheel was not going to work without chopping up the edges of the screw hole on the block. I keep some used wheels down to under 1/2 inch since they sometimes are handy. It only took a minute to put a small slot in the broken part of the bolt. Based on what people have said about breaking the head off stripped half axle bolts and then just turning them out by hand since the stress was off them, I guessed this bolt would come out the same way. I used a small screwdriver to get the bolt out until I could use a larger cutoff wheel and put a bigger slot in the bolt. Came right out. Much easier than drilling.

William
