My sister and brother-in-law have one of these monsters. I don't remember the make, but it is as big as the biggest bus on the road, with all the slides and so on. It includes a washer and dryer, freezer and essentially everything one might have in a house.

They spend their time going to RV parks in one of the membership networks. They tow a jeep behind it for local transportation.

They also spend several weeks a year at the maintenance location in Alabama (500 miles from their home in Texas).

They know (though I've never said it to them) how I feel about the irresponsibility of owning one of these things and using it, and so I've never been in it.

A bizarre thing to me is that if one buys one on credit, one gets the same tax break that anyone paying for a house on a mortgage gets. For that matter, the same goes for any "motor home," whatever class it is.

From what I can tell, most people who have them spend most of their time with them either driving them, or at RV parks rather than doing anything that I might consider "real."

I consider these monstrosities to be a complete and total insult to the environment and ownership and use of them to be totally irresponsible. And no, I don't need any rationalizations from anyone for them. Anyone who feels it is his or her privilege because they've earned it through their work, well, I'm sorry.

Have a good day, David
