I'd recommend to start with a jumper wire (or mechanic's remote starter switch) from the control terminal on the solenoid to alternator B+. In fact I leave a jumper rigged that way permanently with a clove hitch around some nearby hose, so I can simply press the end of the crocodile clip against B+ to crank it. The boot extends over the end of the clip so it isn't in danger of accidentally shorting to ground in between times.
