If you go feel around the starter and find that the control wire isn't plugged in but just waving about in the vicinity of the terminal, will you send me five bucks?

Since that's happened to me with both a Fiat and a Vanagon I feel qualified to suggest it.

For my sins I've owned a Sunbeam Alpine, a Fiat 128, a Saab 96 V4 and a '78 Horizon. So Vanagons don't scare me much...
