Ken: I'll count myself as one of your "globetrotters". I use the Lonely Planet for my travels. I'd suggest that you get on their web page, or amazon.com and get a copy. Maybe some of the competitors books too (Rough Guide, etc.). I see that amazon.com has a Kindle edition of Lonely Planet Belize!!!

If you have a good bookstore near you, you can pick-up a travel book there, or just go in and sit down and read the first 20 or pages and you'll get a good over-view of the country and the annoyances etc.

Also, scan all of your documents (Passport, van title, driver's license (MAYBE credit cards) etc, and have the Belize and US Phone #s for calling re lost or stolen credit-cards and have all that handy, photocopied and hidden in the van, and in a secure place on the web, or with trusted friends. Go prepared to get everything stolen, and when it happens, no big deal!

Also use either an over the shoulder, under the shirt, wallet, or a skinny fanny-pack that will set inside your pants behind your front zipper for ALL valuables. DON'T use a hip-pocket wallet! Google these words - samsonite small neck pouch - and you'll see what I mean. I have one that is passport size and one that is just the size of a credit card.

I usually walk around with just ONE of 3 credit cards, and just enough money for the day.

Any other questions, just ask, but I've never been to Belize, so I can't answer specific questions. Happy trails. Malcolm
