The Jetta solution is elegant.  Too bad they didn't think of it a few
years earlier, but at least you know about it now.  And yes, it's a
nuisance scrambling around to shut off the three individual lights
when the door or hatch is going to be open for a while.  Likewise
when you open the door and no light. ('89 White Star)

Engineering peeve of the day:  Light fixtures with expensive
single-source halogen bulbs and faceted plastic lens/housings that
produce a harsh dazzling light and -- this is the really peevish part
-- melt and distort under ordinary use.  Yes I'm thinking of you, '84 Westy.
