that makes sense. Norway or Sweden had some funny import duties too that affected the conformation of imported Vanagons.

Alastair, I seem to recall that syncros with P.T.O.s were supplied to Finland, where the presence of a P.T.O. enabled the vehicle to be registered as a tractor, thus avoiding the import duties otherwise applicable.
