(Cross posting for gas and diesel Vanagon-types.)

I'm retrofitting '82 diesel Westy #2 (with metal coolant pipes) with '84 + Euro-style (1.7na diesel KY aka TIICO aka Greaseworks) coolant hoses.

Not only are the metal pipes 1/4" smaller, but the "to radiator" pipe (right side pipe) takes a sharp bend and is located about 6" directly ABOVE the "return radiator" pipe, about 10" inboard from the engine compartment next to the fuel filter.

Do all the metal pipes end this way ('83 diesel? '83-85 gas?)

Anyway, these new hoses are for plastic pipes, so the upper "octopus" hose is tooooo long. It reaches way past the "to radiator" pipe.

Am I right in assuming the right side pipe is still the "to radiator" pipe, and the one closer to the middle is the "from radiator" pipe? ETKA is mum on the subject.

And does anyone have a good picture of the plastic coolant pipes where they enter the engine compartment? From what I can make out the pipes exit right next to each other, the "to radiator" pipe staying outboard (right) of the "from radiator" pipe - but I haven't found a real clear image searching the interweb.

I'm thinking I'll have to cut the metal pipe and add some hose to get it to bend to the plastic pipe position. Anyone else done this? Best location?

Thanks,

Will in Alaska.
