That "oilite" bearing is very porous and filled with oil.  In time it looses
it's good property and needs new oil.  When I get a new one, I put it on my
thumb, pour oil in it to almost overflow, then with my other finger I push
the excess of oil through to make it "sweat" it through it's pores to the
outside.  That way it is filled with oil and will last a long time.  And old
one can be cleaned of dirt and filled with new oil the same way.  The
thinner the oil the faster it is filled but last lesser time in action.
