Beavers are still fairly common around here, and with Viking Air here doing refits and mods (Viking is the type certificate holder for the DHC-2 Beaver,DHC-2T Turbo Beaver, DHC-3 Otter, DHC-6 Twin Otter, DHC-4 Caribou, DHC-5 Buffalo and DHC-7 Dash 7 aircraft) I hope they will be around for a while yet. The kamov has a distinct beat from rotors that you can hear from a distance. But the noisiest are the Sea Kings (443 squadron here) that sometimes do exercises involving flying over our house, at night. I need to get some pictures of the chopped caddy (and toronado I think) tugs moving the float planes around, its really an unusual sight. alistair

We had one at the aviation mechanic's school that I attended and we had to do maintenance on it, restore parts of it, and get it up and running. There is nothing quite like the sound of a large rotary engine! Such a versatile plane, it reminds me of our Vanagon as the Jack of all trades of the sky. That copter is cool too. We live about a mile from a Boeing helicopter reconditioning center as well as an airport (Millville airport). I get the large, Chinooks flying overhead most of the day. Rattles the whole shop sometimes. Have a great Friday! Ken Wilford John 3:16 www.vanagain.com |
