How long is your driveway? : ) I think there is just enough thermal mass in the cylinders and heads to run the car for about 15 or 20 seconds. After they get hot they would no longer be able to absorb the heat and you'd cook something. I have run a diesel that way for about 30 seconds with no ill effects but I wouldn't want to run it that long again. Any amount of water, which has a great capacity to transfer heat to itself, would help.
