Turns out I must be some kinda genius. I have the 85 filler pipe, but the rubber boot (seal) at fill end of '81 pipe seems too small. vagcat.com isn't loading up so can't compare PN's or images of that rubber boot. I also see remnants of 2 thin O rings on the '85 plastic filler pipe at fill end. I imagine I'd need those as well. Ah well. Looks like I'll be installing the old gas tank mit a reseal.
