Subject: Gas Tank Alignment Questions. PIC
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

Ok, found the gas leak.

Pic of tank fill hole alignment at frame (72 Kb size image): http://tinyurl.com/2e3ev52 It should show how poorly the tank fill hole lines up. (tank too low)

Yellow circle shows where a rubber strip is between frame and tank. There were at least 4 around lip of old tank.

Do I really need those 4 (or 6?) strips between tank and frame? Can't see them in Bentley. If I don't......

The tank was a tight fit (new) when installed. My hope is that if I remove those rubber strips, I can then move the tank higher up to better align the hole with frame. To that end.....

Have any other people found that fitting a new tank is tight, and, did they successfully "hammer" it tight to frame? ("hammering" on 2x4 piece at lip of tank) I really don't want to malform the tank if I do this.

The poor alignment up/down of tank eventually trashed the big donut seal. This part locally is $40 so any expert direction would be most welcome. I really don't want to do this again! :)

Thanks,

Neil.
