I am positive that there are identical parts on the market when it comes to fuel pumps. I recall a ford bronco even using a similar pump, at least in appearance. I had a mercedes with the same pump on it. When the pump went bad and my father brought it to me freaking out about how much it would likely cost and where to find a replacement, I simply opened a drawer, full of them. : ) The mercedes pump had the same bosch number on it as the VW pump.

Yes, they're out there. I'd even say it's worth the $46 to take the chance on finding out!
