Subject: Filler Pipe Hole Position: Aftermarket gas tank (pics)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

2 small file size pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/musomuso/GasTank#5551797277830167394

At time of install, it seemed the filler neck was too close to the frame, but it sealed for some time, so thought it was ok.

The tank won't move fore/aft as each end butts up, or is very close to, frame metal. Maybe the undercoating I applied didn't help (it was a tight fit), but really can't see it affecting tank position that much.

Has anyone else seen this type of poor alignment? This is a Brazilian "cheaper" tank purchased from California Imports.

Would repositioning (rotating) the filler pipe help? Can't really see how though. It is pretty much butted up against the front AND bottom portion of hole in frame.

<sigh> If it's a tank manufacture issue, that's just sad. It really should line up better than that! At least I still have the old tank. It looks "ok".

And, the vent pipe seal seems ok (2nd pic) No obvious leak there. FWIW, the undercoating I applied didn't hold up well to a fuel leak (bubbled away at tank seam)

Thanks for any insights,

Neil.
