Thanks for the education folks. When I was there this past July, I just went by what the brochure from our resort in Palm Springs said,and  from looking at all the dead Tilapia that littered the place. It used to have some really nice marinas and fishing shops there but they were just derelict wastes when I saw them. The brochure said that the water had been pumped out for agricultural use and there was no natural drainage anymore, so runoff just accumulated in the Sea along with all the chemical contents. Probably a simplified explanation for us tourists. :-/
