Well, it turns out both my comments (that seem to have triggered a long thread) were wrong. First, looking at the eBay pictures again it is very clear that the cross brace IS there. And second, it's been pointed out to me that there is no sheet metal under the upper bunk, it's just plywood. So I apologize for triggering a whole bunch of discussion with my statements that were just plain wrong. Maybe the rest of the week will be better....
