Dear querying shipper,

IIRC, Roger, that incident had to do with Uship dot com, a sort of eBay for those offering shipping services. Not a lot of control over the actions of those doing the actual transporting.

Having done a bit of auto transport myself, I will say that I would be reluctant to ship any vehicle, especially a Vanagon, on an auto carrier. Aside from the very real possibilities of damage, both cosmetic and mechanical, the rates charged by the "reputable" companies are astounding (even in the late 80's it was usually $1.00 per mile for an average car - - think of that, a 10-car transporter getting $10 per mile while most others in the trucking industry were struggling to get just one dollar per mile!).

That being said, I am sure there are folks here on the list who would be willing to drive your vehicle to you for cost of fuel, plus cost of ticket back home. Folks who are Vanagon-savvy and would treat it as their own. If I were unable to fly to wherever and drive it back myself, I would consider asking here on this great resource of ours.

Gary
