RE: Moose and mailbox and iron pipe and mailbox

The welders solution reminds of an incident back in the late '70s when I was living on Vahon Island, in Puget Sound, just off Seattle. Virtually all rural living, mailboxes on posts on the side of the road, some single, some in clusters. And a favorite Friday night pastime of some of the high school boys was to drive down the road in a pickup, a couple of guys in the back with baseball bats, and bash mail boxes. One resident acquired a mailbox made of concrete, mounted it on a concrete post. It looked just like a ordinary metal mail box. And on a weekend night a truck was heard on the road, clangs of bat on metal boxes coming down the road. And then a resounding 'whack' and a scream of pain as the kid wielding the baseball bat found out what happens when the irresistible force meets the immovable object:: An indescribable mess! The final chapter was written in two steps. First, the next weekend the sheriff's deputy (the only one on the island) pulled over a pickup with several teenage boys because they were driving up Cemetery Road with a concrete mail box and pillar dragging behind from a chain. Step two was full restitution to about a dozen mail box owners and IIRC some hours of community service for several young men when Justice of The Peace The Honorable Judge Schwartz got through with them.
