I've done this many times.
if the task is to swap out the starter ..
my suggestion is don't even consider it until lowering the rear of the
engine a little.
It's only a matter of a few bolts, the front trans mount and shift linkage
are designed to pivot a little...
so it's super easy to lower the rear of the engine a little ( undo bolts at
outer ends of rear engine mounting bar ) .
Sometimes I hang it by longer bolts on the end .
This gives great access to the starter and anything to do with the clutch
slave cylinder.
I sell, btw, clutch slave cylinder brackets with 'that bolt' ( the one with
the nut on the bottom you can barely get a short 13mm open end wrench on )
...........with that bolt and nut arrangement turned into a stud .
That way it's hyper easy any time to unbolt the two slave cyl mounting bolts
( and forward bracket ) .
Only need to do it to your van once, then from then clutch slave is a breeze
to unbolt.
in any case ......don't try accessing the starter or slave without lowering
the rear of the engine a little.
what fun these vans are.
