Just be aware most of the solder failures I've seen will not be visible without a microscope. By the time they get really really bad they will, but they may very well have failed electrically - either an intermittent or a hard failure - before then. I got into this stuff through an industry-magazine article around 1980 with some fascinating photomicrographs, much better than what I have to show. Then had some further experience later at a VDT builder where we had some problems with thermal cycling on a video drive transistor.
