I have tire pressure monitoring on a Prius. I live in a place where ambient temperature in winter can vary over a 70 F range in a single week. I have always checked my tire pressures once a week, in the garage (usually around 45 - 50 F in winter, almost regardless of outside temperature). If I happen to leave the car outside overnight for some reason, or even sitting outside for an extended period in daytime on a cold day, the monitor will show low tire pressure.

Where is there a "full service gas pump"? None within miles and miles (hundreds) of me. Air at gas stations that have it here is SOLD, $0.50 a shot. Same price applies, Vanagon or Prius. Of course, I supply my own under normal circumstances.
