I too have never had such a run in - however I think about it a lot - not just because I drive a VW Bus but because it stands out like a sore thumb. I'm much smarter now than in my younger days so if I did get pulled over I know I'm in no danger of violating anything - but I do still think about it when driving late at night or any other time when I feel I could be easily singled out. The closest experience I would say I've had of this was coming back into the U.S. from Buses of the Corn a few years ago. We got stopped at customs - they said it was random but I doubt it - after they saw we weren't "pot smoking hippies" and upon opening the slider saw the mess of camping gear (it was raining when we packed up so things were extra unorganized) they just let us move on - I don't even think they searched inside the van at all.
