Winter weather conditions around Northwest Georgia can vary greatly.

One year, before Jo and I had attended this event, the park was closed due to snowy and icy conditions, and the club had to scramble to find an private campground that was open. They ended up not very far away in Somewhere, Alabama.

I think that was the same year that a couple of the gang did the polar bear thing by taking a dip in the waterfall at the bottom of the trail. I stuck my head in that pool once and would liken the experience to taking a dip in a river in Vermont river in, say, July.

Another weekend, nighttime temps were just below freezing, but daytime highs approached 60 Fahrenheit, and we were able to play Disc Golf on the park's disc course wearing jeans and T shirts.

And last year, it remained below freezing the entire time and we got around an inch of snow mixed with ice between Friday and Sunday morning.

I learned that it is a stupid idea to deploy yer awning if there's the remotest chance of this happening, but having a rubber mallet on hand will save the situation.

George/ATL
