That's one reason the wheel bolt torque is ~50% higher (~130 lb-ft vs ~90 lb-ft) on a Vanagon, it's the bolts and the clamping force which hold the wheel in its proper place. There's no reason not to use the wheels you have on a Vanagon. The issue is clearancing the bores by hand. When you go to get them balanced, the machine depends on a concentric bore to center the wheel. You can only get that on a lathe. Your "by hand" bore is going to be off center by some amount, so the wheel isn't going to balance properly. |
