Hello All,
I'm sending a report on our trip to BBTB. I'm making stops on the way
at relatives and such..
The first part was from Washington (I picked up I-5 at Olympia) down
to Medford, OR.
Got a late start on Sat and arrived in Medford around 8pm. Bought gas
at the Safeway in Woodland, WA and again in Grants Pass, OR (Chevron
$3.24/gal). Clear roads most all the way with the light rain changing
to snow while going over the high spots, nothing white staying on the ground.
Sunday was a clear day in Medford with fog coming and going that
morning. An uneventful trip over the mountains, no snow on the road.
A quick trip thru the Calif agriculture station, almost no questions
(do you have any fruits, vegetables of plants? We have had a LOT more
questions on other trips) but I do wonder what she was looking at
down out of our sight as we drove up and some of the time we were
there. I was thinking of some sort of screen and software that runs
our licence plate maybe?
We stopped in Yreka at Grandma's Restaurant (that first Yreka exit
heading south), an acceptable cheeseburger & good service and my
wife's tuna salad was huge.
Refueled in Anderson ($3.30/gal).
We took the cut off at Williams (Hwy 20) over to Sonoma county,
twisty mountain roads in a Vanagon in the dark... good fun but more
fun in the daylight, as I was going I realized that I'd gotten a
speeding ticket on that road in 1978. I realize that as I get older
I'd rather travel in the day time and see the sights.... <g>.
Not much of a trip report but not much has happened, just driving.
In California only one rest area was closed and the roads (so far) on
I-5 are still in acceptable (no difference from the last trip I made down here)
No problems & no other Vanagons or buses of any sort (yet) but I'm in
Sonoma county and I'll see some tomorrow.
The next stop is Santa Cruz....
I don't have a CB any more, never really thought about it for the
Vanagon.... where do you put it?
See you in Arizona on Thursday.
