Jeff, I used a machine shop to do my engine and head work on my 85 Westy
that is down in Woodbridge. Can't recall the name (not sure if they are even
still there), but there is an industrial park off of Dawson Beach Rd. I
think the guy's shop was on Cannons Ct. He had a small 1-2 man
engine/machine shop that was in a row of industrual buildings.
Even if you can't find him, just taking a drive through the industrual area
there (it's only about 3-4 blocks in size), I'm sure you'll find other
machines shops.
Alternatively, in Manassas, heading down Rt 28 (before you get to the
downtown area), there are a bunch of automotive and lawnmower shops. There
is a performance auto shop on the left side of the road (I think its
actually called Performance Auto, or something like that), but they have a
full machine/welding shop next door. They did some machining and welding for
me (not a VW engine) that was very well done and reasonably priced.
