FWIW, I can't imagine them being a different size either. All I know is that the wheel that I ground the lip off of fits over the grease cup on the passengers side, but won't fit on the drivers side. Now, this experiment took place in my driveway last night in the dark, in the cold, after a 12 hour day at work. I didn't have time to put the van in the garage and check it out further, but I will this weekend. Maybe the one on the drivers side has some corrosion on it, and I need to take some emery cloth to it and clean it up. I plan to remove both of them this weekend and compare them side by side. Also, it seems my question about these rims has evolved into a debate on whether or not one should change from the stock wheels on the Vanagon. I've always thought it odd that the Vanagon has 14" rims. For crying out loud, even my '74 S. Beetle convertible has 15" rims. I know there is also the belief that you can't argue with German engineering-ever seen the drink holders on the console of the early New Beetles? I personally see nothing wrong with installing better looking, larger rims. I've seen lots of really nice looking Vanagons with custom wheels. But if stock is what floats your boat, then thats fine for you. Those of you who have been around for a while or were on the Type2 list years ago will remember a guy who called himself "Doktor Tim". I'll never forget him publicly ridiculing me for installing a PPG windshield in my '77 Westy, instead of holding out and finding a genuine German made windshield! I had a cracked windshield and it needed to be replaced for my state safety inspection, and it wasn't like glass shops were tripping over German made windshields back in the late 90's! Whatever, again, to each his/her own! Jeff

I can't imagine that the grease caps are a different size from left to right. In fact, some places sell one to be used for either side- I can't remember if it's the one with the hole or without- it's probably with the hole for the speed cable, as Bus Boys lists a NLA cap that looks like it would cover the hole if you used it on the right side.
