Interesting, Dennis, thanks for the info. I've heard of lots of Audi wheels put on Vanagons, so I figured this was fairly common. Maybe I need to reconsider using these wheels! Jeff

Should be fun next time you need tires and want to get the wheels balanced. All the balancing machines use the inside bore and a taper cone to center and locate the wheel. Oh speaking of that, the Audi and Mercedes wheels are known as hub-centric. The wheel is a tight fit around the hubs and that is how those wheels are centered and the rotating forces controlled. The lugs just hold them laterally. Now you are asking the wheels to perform a job for which they may not be designed for. When you buy wheels for these vehicles center bore is part of the specs and when needed center bushings are supplied to keep the fit hub centric.
