Those washer are available in three different sizes. Most likely for the 2wd your arms got bent while changing the bushings or they are not fully seated. Those arms should flex enough to go back together.

Any list vendors sell the different sized washers? I see van cafe have one - im guessing its stock 4mm since they dont have the size specified. I have about 2mm of space between the control arm and the washer I have to deal with....but only on side of the car.

Looking at the Bentley it appears filling the space really only applies to the syncro and not my 91 2wd. From the archives though it seems a lot of people are going to the trouble of shimming correctly.
