If the handle is going south (black coated pot metal cracking) and you're buying a used part, if need be, a later model handle will fit if you trim the end. I've been using a trimmed '85 handle on my '81 for a year or two. IIRC the newer handle is shorter. (the newer style latch is easier to open). If so, a newer handle on an older style latch may wear sooner. Mine was free so I'm not too concerned. ;) Neil.
