hi Dan, are you talking about the one that goes over the bell housing area ? not 'further back under there' ...as there is a hose there too.

I'm aware of the 'over bell housing' hose since on automatic transmission vanagon .. oil fumes and heat coming off the torque converter eat at that hose.

on one van I used the pipe that goes through that area on a syncro ... and connected it with short pieces of hose on each end. that worked just fine. Bit of fabrication, but no big deal.
