dear first time buyers

there are ways to do check lists and there are ways to do check lists moreover there are peole who sell vehicles and people who think you are inspecting the state of their underwear on the day of the sale ...

the buyer dares to question the sellers integrity by asking if the tires really only have 5k miles on them right away the sellers back is up because they know they are lying ... but more to the point they know they are selling a vehicle that is at least 20 years old ... they had a lot of good times or not ..either way they are going to be emotionally attached. and emotionally attached either by good or bad feelings is going to raise the ire of the seller.

it is sort of like when the police pull you over ... they believe everyone is guilty of something ..so they push that button first just to see what they get ...it is likely the seller is as high strung as the person being questioned is ... underwriting that emotion is the knowledge that the buyer may reject them (the van) and it is a science to be able to deal with rejection... very often the rejected is hurt and says the rejector was a jerk ...

now as far as lists are concerned ... print the list and read it ... read it again ... then read it again ... then have some one read it to you ...or better yet go practice the list on your friend ...(yes the good friend who always sits up with you when you have had too much sambuka

then just before you go to look at the vanagon .... read the sheet again ... you should now have it internalized and assimilated enter the den ... face the seller ...indeed simply face the vanagon ...you know what to look for and what to ask about ... and remember your seller has a lot invested in this ...even they are a professional curber or professional top gun seller/reseller/dealer or backyard seller or some guy or galnwith a vanagon for sale and what they have invested in it is they fear of rejection ... that will make people ... even the most solid veritas .. say things they absolutely "believe to be true" this vanagon was only driven by a little olde person back from church on sundays and saturdays with wednesday night worship time not included as they were always picked up by their cousin joy those nights.

so the bottom line is first time buyer ... and first time sellers .... lists are great ... no one likes seeing them no one likes to have one in their hand that they must be dependent on ... everyone uses them ... the real question is how to make use of list and not let the seller see you using a list ... might i sugest blue tooth conversation with third party on the phone while you look vanagon over ... bluetooth of camera ask you a question and you ask seller ... you look thoughtful and knowledgeable ... seller speaks response or you look your self and bluetooth off camera hears answer... first time buyer just dont argue with anyone ... seller or bluetiooth off camera ... regards -- roger w From Proverbs: Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up: a servant who becomes king ... ---------------------------------------------------------- Explore printed work at: http://www.prliving.ca/ View the growing list of video work at: http://www.prpeak.com/articles/2010/11/29/multimedia/video/doc4c62e5f80d228504902172.txt
