Hi
We have the material for the R-8 in stock it has a Ivory face that is fabric. Works as a radiant, Vapor, and Thermal Barrier. Might get trapped condensation between it and the roof so you might get Mold back behind it. A snap on application where you can take it down to breath might be the way to go. You could attach Velcro Buttons to the edge to attach as needed. could be a bit easier.
BUT to mention Heat and cold once it is in the vehicle it is hard to get it out since the thermal will want to keep it the temp it is. You will need some sort of cooling device since the outside temps will overtake the inside temp. Once it is hot it will stay hot.
Good luck with whatever you decide on. The big thing is if trying to stay warm you have a heater that will not need to kick on as often and use less energy for extended stays which will keep you warmer and save some coin on refueling a bit more. Also reduces cold spots and drafts.
For summer use without some sort of Cooling device to offset humidity and or high heat you will basically make an oven, Now if it is hot during the day but cold at night you will heat up the inside during the day and at night it will retain much of the inside heat longer. Dry heat versus Wet heat is a different animal all together. dry heat you could run a fan across cool water and it will help condition the interior. Wet heat or humid / muggy heat like hear in Michigan you want to pull the moisture out for comfort. I found in a marine book a bit of time ago about a condensation remover uses no power. Just collects the moisture in a bag. Really not sure if it would be the way to go. Need to do some more research to see if it would really make a difference or if it is just something else to store in the Vanagon.
My Thermal has extended our camping season by 2-4 months which is great. The Summer can still be a sweat box though and not much fun.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Jonce

I'd like a way to insulate the ceiling. It goes past 100 degrees in the summer where I live, and between the fiberglass roof, all the uninsulated metal, and my untinted windows, it can get extremely hot while parked. I like the idea of Reflectix - I've used it to insulate another van that I paneled. I'd like to cover the reflectix with an attractive fabric so that it would look nice up there...
Patti
90 Westy Automatic

On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 12:32 PM, Jonce Fancher <streetbugs@frontier.com > wrote:
Hi Jamie
I make 2 different Versions the R-4 and the R-8 Pending your Camping sickness.
I also have recently made the prototype Outside thermals unlike the
inside thermals window covers that seem to just let a flow of cold
air from the bottom of the glass straight in.
