if it flops around its probably loose and will soon break. 80-'84 sliding doorhandles are NLA new so i suggest you correct the problem ASAP before you break it..

have you removed the inner doorpanel and tightened the set screw? its probably loose as a goose. also you may be missing the plastic collar/escucheon that fits in the hole in the sliding door as well..
